Boston Globe: Hillary Clinton tests appeal to (gasp!) Republicans

By Annie Linskey and Tracy Jan, May 16, 2016, Boston Globe

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hillary Clinton has spent decades in a partisan mudfight with the Republican Party, disagreeing on everything from health care to Benghazi, from e-mail servers to the transgressions of her husband.

But as she begins looking toward a general election matchup with Donald Trump, she is beginning to court members of the party that loves to hate her. When it comes to Trump, she uses one of her husband’s famous lines, telling angst-ridden Republicans: I feel your pain.

Though Clinton’s travels to Kentucky are billed as a way to stir support for Tuesday’s primary, time spent in the conservative state also afforded her the chance to road-test a message about the dangers she believes are presented by the presumptive Republican nominee.
