The New York Times: Debacle: What Al Gore’s First Debate Against George W. Bush Can Teach Hillary Clinton
By Patrick Healy, Sept. 25, 2016, The New York Times
The October 2000 showdown was seen by some as a deciding factor in that presidential race. Our oral history reveals lessons for the 2016 Democratic nominee.
Note to Hillary Clinton: You can be whip-smart in a presidential debate, yet still blow it spectacularly. Just ask Al Gore.
The vice president had the advantage going into his first debate against Gov. George W. Bush of Texas on Oct. 3, 2000. Like Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Gore was perceived as knowing far more about domestic issues, foreign affairs and the art of debating than the Republican nominee. He also had a modest lead in several national polls.
Many Democrats believed Mr. Bush would look like a policy lightweight compared with Mr. Gore, an assumption that many have made about Donald J. Trump. But Mr. Bush had surprises in store. And Mr. Gore was undone by impulses he could not control.
No other presidential debate has more resonance — or red flags — for Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump, who will face off on Monday for the first time. This is the story of that first debate between Mr. Bush and Mr. Gore, as told to me recently by people who were deeply involved in the event — including some who believe it cost Mr. Gore the presidency.

BuzzFeed CORRECTS: Trump Campaign Now Says There’s No Debate Invite For Gennifer Flowers
ORIGINAL HEADLINE: Gennifer Flowers Agrees To Join Trump At Presidential Debate
Andrew Kaczynski, Sept. 24, 2016, BuzzFeed
Gennifer Flowers, the former model who had an extramarital affair with Bill Clinton in the 1980s, says she’ll accept an invitation from Donald Trump to sit in the front row of Monday’s presidential debate, according to an assistant.
The prospect of Flowers attending the debate was raised on Saturday when Trump tweeted that he would put her in the audience, if billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban sat in the front row.
“If dopey Mark Cuban of failed Benefactor fame wants to sit in the front row, perhaps I will put Jennifer Flowers right alongside of him!” Trump tweeted Saturday afternoon.

The Charlotte Observer: Clinton, Trump Postpone Charlotte Visits at Request of Mayor, Governor
By I'm Morrill, Sept. 24, 2016, The Charlotte Observer
Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton have postponed scheduled visits to Charlotte after a televised plea from Mayor Jennifer Roberts and, in the case of Trump, a request from Gov. Pat McCrory.
Clinton had announced a Sunday morning visit, likely to an African American church, after her campaign conferred earlier Friday with city officials.
And Trump had earlier announced a Tuesday appearance, which would have been his first following Monday’s first presidential debate.
Both visits could have come during the state of emergency that has followed Tuesday’s police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott and the violent protests that followed.

Doc News: Obama Reportedly Used Pseudonym To Email with Clinton on Her Private Server
By Fox News, Sept. 24, 2016
President Obama used a pseudonym when sending or receiving emails through the private server system Hillary Clinton used as secretary of state, according to nearly 200 pages of documents released Friday by the FBI.
Included in the documents are notes from an April 2016 interview with long-time Clinton aide Huma Abedin, conducted in connection with the FBI’s two-year investigation into Clinton’s use of the private server for official correspondence.
One note was about the FBI showing Abedin an email address “believed to be a pseudonym used by the President,” as reported by Politico and other news-gathering agencies.
Abedin said she didn’t recognize the name and “expressed her amazement” that Obama apparently used a pseudonym.
She also exclaimed, “How is this not classified,” according to the documents.
That email exchange occurred in June 28, 2012, with the subject line “Congratulations,” perhaps regarding a Supreme Court ruling on ObamaCare. However, federal lawyers will not release the emails, citing executive privilege.
The FBI concluded its investigation this summer, finding that several Clinton emails included at least parts of classified information and that the now-Democratic presidential nominee was “extremely careless.”

Kevin Jackson: Congressional Black Caucus Making Black Neighborhoods and ‘America Much More Unsafe’
CNN’s Burnett Shares Most Arrested NC Protesters Were From Out of State
By Lindsey Ellefson, Sept. 22, 2016, Mediate
It’s not exactly radical to say that people care about their communities, whether the community is a physical region or a group of people with something in common. When a black person is killed by the police, black citizens of the town served by the cop’s precinct and their allies often protest. It makes sense.
Large-scale demonstrations, though, tend to attract others. Sometimes, the people who come from beyond the region are there because they believe in the message or mission of the protests. Other times, they see an opportunity to act up, get violent, or otherwise cause a scene. Because they aren’t from the community,...

Breitbart: Tea Party Super PAC Endorses Donald Trump

Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund, a Super PAC, is throwing its support behind Donald Trump for president.
“On the question of whether to support Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund – the Super PAC affiliated with the largest tea party organization in the country – has made its choice,” Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund (TPPCF) chairman Jenny Beth Martin explained in a statement issued on Thursday.
“Hillary Clinton stands opposed to everything the Tea Party stands for, on the policy, political, and personal fronts. Donald Trump, on the other hand, has pledged to fight to uphold our core values. In making a choice between the two of them, there is really no choice at all – we choose Trump.”

CNN: Number Of Those Wrongly Given Citizenship Higher Than Initially Reported, Was 858, Now 1,800
By Jake Tapper, Sept. 20, 2016, CNN
Washington (CNN)The number of individuals who were supposed to have been deported but were instead granted citizenship is far higher than was initially reported by media covering the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General's office report on the matter.
On Monday, the Inspector General reported that 858 individuals from "special interest countries" -- meaning countries that are considered to be "of concern to the national security" of the US -- were supposed to have been deported but were instead granted US citizenship.
But the truth is the report is even worse than reported, with more than 1,800 individuals naturalized who should have been deported from the country.
A reason for the underplaying of the number may have been the report's focus, which was whether the US Citizenship and Immigration Services was using digital fingerprints effectively. The Inspector General determined that the agency granted citizenship to 858 individuals who had been ordered deported or removed under another identity but "their digital fingerprint records were not available" during the naturalization process.

Feds Wrongly Grant Citizenship To 858 From 'Countries Of Concern' Facing Deportation
By Fox News, Sept. 19, 2016
More than 800 illegal immigrants from countries of concern who were set for deportation were mistakenly granted U.S. citizenship because the Department of Homeland Security didn’t have their fingerprints on file, according to an internal audit released Monday.
The Homeland Security Department’s inspector general found the immigrants used different names or birthdates to apply for citizenship with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration. In the case of 858 immigrants from "special interest countries or neighboring countries with high rates of immigration fraud," the discrepancies weren’t caught because their fingerprints were missing from government databases.
A few even managed to get aviation or transportation worker credentials, though they were later revoked. One became a law enforcement officer.
The findings were released, incidentally, as authorities were investigating a string of weekend attacks, allegedly connected to foreign-born suspects.
