Kevin Faulconer for Governor of California, Endorsement by Alexandra D. Datig
Los Angeles, California, August 5, 2021 - Former San Diego Mayor, Kevin Faulconer, has the capacity to lead California, because he understands how to run a municipality with 1.4 million residents. One of the most critical abilities Kevin Faulconer has is crisis management and handling of critical response, with the understanding of how to delegate and lead in a state of emergency. He understands how to build consensus in a dignified and relatable way, that brings Californians together. We need this now more than ever before, and that is why I am endorsing Kevin Faulconer for Governor of California.
California is in big trouble because our current Governor, Gavin Newsom has badly mismanaged the state. We have the nation’s largest homeless crisis and are a border state with a partial wall. We have the highest taxes, rents that don’t meet the job market and the highest unemployment rate with people fleeing the state. Democrats know they are failing the state and are doing everything they can to retain power and keep the money flowing to their interests. This glaring lack of consensus has to change for the better because it is hurting California.
At the helm of this is a divisive governor, Gavin Newsom, who wants to run the state by excluding Republicans from the conversation and prevent us from offering real solutions. In Los Angeles, Skid Row, at least five people die, per day, from the conditions they are exposed to because of homelessness. More homeless Veterans live and die on California’s streets than any other state. This is an absolute inexcusable tragedy and it cannot continue.
I care greatly for my city and my state and I know, if we are to replace our governor and someone new takes over, they have to be able to hit the ground running. The job of Governor of California is not one you can finagle and finesse yourself through with no prior experience in government when managing a state in crisis. Experience is absolutely essential when taking over a state with more than 39 million residents. With the crisis California is in, there is simply no time for on-the-job training, because time is running out for so many Californians. There is too much at stake, which is why we have to make a responsible decision that will save lives, jobs and livelihoods.
There are many great candidates on the Republican ticket in the recall election. We saw the finest display of what a leader should aspire to be at the recall debate last night. I was proud of my Party and congratulate the candidates for a well-made effort. All candidates showed they support the common goal of restoring California to its greatness. I believe Kevin Faulconer is the most qualified candidate to lead California back to the standards Californians deserve.
