OANN: Ex-Marine Chosen To Direct U.S. Extradition Efforts
By David Ingram, March 7, 2016, OANN/Reuters
(Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Justice has hired a retired Marine Corps major general to head the office in charge of bringing overseas criminal defendants to the United States for trial, a task that has grown in importance as the work of U.S. prosecutors increasingly crosses national borders.
Vaughn Ary, a lawyer who was in the Marine Corps for 28 years, has been chosen as director of the department’s Office of International Affairs, according to an internal personnel announcement seen by Reuters.
A Justice Department spokesman declined to comment on the appointment. Ary could not be reached for comment.
Ary resigned last year as the convening authority for U.S. military commissions, a job that put him in charge of operations at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, tribunals. He had angered some defense lawyers and military judges by pushing a plan to increase the pace of trials at the Guantanamo naval base by requiring judges to live there. The plan was scrapped.

OANN: North Korea Says Successfully Conducts First H-Bomb Test, Experts Cast Doubt
By Ju-min Park and Tony Munroe, Jan. 6, 2016
SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea said it successfully tested a miniaturized hydrogen nuclear bomb on Wednesday, prompting scepticism among experts and officials who doubt Pyongyang has achieved such a major advance in its strike capability.
The test, the fourth time the isolated state has exploded a nuclear device, was ordered by leader Kim Jong Un and successfully conducted at 10:00 a.m. local time (0130 GMT), North Korea’s official KCNA news agency said.
“Let the world look up to the strong, self-reliant nuclear-armed state,” Kim wrote in what North Korean state TV displayed as a handwritten note.
South Korean intelligence officials and several analysts questioned whether Wednesday’s explosion was a test of a full-fledged hydrogen device, pointing to the fact that it was roughly as powerful as North Korea’s last atomic test in 2013.
But the development unnerved South Korea and Japan and drew international criticism, including from China and Russia, North Korea’s two main allies.

OANN: What Is Wrong With Millennial Credit Scores
By Bobbi Rebell, Sept. 2, 2015, OANN
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Millennials get plenty of recognition for frugality and their desire to share everything from cars to clothes, but they also have the lowest average credit score of any generation, according to a new study.
The average millennial credit score is 625, and 28 percent of them are ranked below 579, says NerdWallet, a personal finance website. In the world of credit scores, anything above 660 (out of 850) is considered good.
Based on millennial credit habits, those scores may not improve.
Among the key issues: Some millennials (18-34-year olds) are shunning credit cards completely after hearing so many debt-related horror stories from the financial crisis. Others are applying for the wrong cards and getting rejected.
“Millennials are misunderstanding, or are simply unaware of, the benefits of credit cards,” says Sean McQuay, NerdWallet’s resident credit card expert.

OANN/Reuters: Hillary Clinton To Call For Lifting Cuban Embargo
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton this week will call on U.S. lawmakers to lift the long-standing economic embargo against Cuba, her campaign announced on Wednesday.
The former U.S. secretary of state will say on Friday during an appearance at Florida International University in Miami that “Republican arguments against increased engagement are part of failed policies of the past,” her campaign said.
President Barack Obama’s administration has formally restored diplomatic ties with the island nation and dropped Cuba from a list of state sponsors of terror.
But Congress has the authority to remove restrictions that prevent Americans from owning property in Cuba or traveling there freely. So far, it has not done so.
Before the Obama administration’s changes, Clinton had asserted the policy toward Cuba, in place for more than 50 years, was not working. She wrote in her memoir that she had urged Obama to move away from the tough stance.

OANN: House Democratic Leader Says Iran Deal Has Her Strong Support
By Patricia Zengerle, Jul. 16, 2015, OANN
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday the nuclear deal with Iran has her strong support, and she would work to convince her colleagues to vote for it.
Pelosi said she was optimistic about the deal’s chances in Congress, calling the agreement the “best possible option.”
“I’m very optimistic about our vote of support for the president,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference, where she held a copy of the nuclear agreement as she endorsed it.
Pelosi’s support is important to Democratic President Barack Obama’s push for the nuclear pact to survive congressional review. The deal was reached on Tuesday between Iran and the United States and five other world powers.
“I am already making sure … people have answers to the questions that they have, and I made very clear to them my own standing on this issue and why I think this is a good agreement,” Pelosi said.

OANN: Bush Rejects Rubio Swipe That Governors Not Ready To Run U.S. Foreign Policy
By Steve Holland, Jul. 9, 2015, OANN
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush on Thursday rejected a contention from Republican rival Marco Rubio that a governor would not be able to manage U.S. foreign policy if elected president in an early sign of their 2016 battle to come.
Bush, who is exploring a run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, sought to allay concerns about his conservative credentials at a forum run by a conservative magazine, National Review.
Rubio, a first-term Florida senator, has gained some early momentum in his own race for the Republican nomination for the 2016 election by touting his foreign policy credentials, which includes membership on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“Governors can certainly read about foreign policy, and take briefings and meet with experts, but there is no way they’ll be ready on Day One to manage U.S. foreign policy,” Rubio told the Des Moines Register last weekend.

OANN: Hoax Letter To Russian Media Seeks To Tie U.S. Senator To Ukraine

Flikr |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A forger sent a hoax letter to Russian media in an apparent bid to convince journalists that a senior U.S. lawmaker, Senator Richard Durbin, was trying to tell Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk how to run his government, Durbin’s office said on Monday.
The hoaxer wrote to Yatsenyuk on what appeared to be U.S. Senate letterhead, claiming to be Durbin, the number two Democrat in the Senate, a leading American voice on Ukraine-related issues who traveled to Kiev in May to discuss Russian aggression.
Ben Marter, a spokesman for Durbin, said his office had told the CIA and the FBI about the letter. Marter said he first learned about it when he was contacted by Russian state-owned media asking for comment.
The forged letter was on paper that resembled U.S. Senate stationery, but with Durbin’s title wrong. The Illinois lawmaker is assistant Democratic leader, but the forged letter called him “Assistant Minority Leader.”

OANN: Rubio Says ‘We Don’t Have The Votes’ For Broad Immigration Bill
![]() |
DIAZ / AP |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republican presidential contender Marco Rubio said on Sunday he still favors immigration reform, but he has accepted the need for a piece-by-piece legislative approach because “we don’t have the votes to pass” a comprehensive measure.
Rubio, a U.S. senator from Florida, said on “Fox News Sunday” there were fewer votes in Congress for comprehensive immigration reform now than two years ago, when he worked with Senate Democrats to help pass a comprehensive bill that included a path to citizenship for those in the country illegally.
That measure died in the House of Representatives amid conservative opposition. Rubio, who faced criticism from the right over his work on the Senate bill, now backs a piecemeal approach that would begin with border security.
“I still believe we need to do immigration reform,” said Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants. “The problem is we can’t do it in one big piece of legislation. The votes aren’t there” in the House of Representatives.
