NYC Council Speaker on Trump Targeting Sanctuary Cities: He’s ‘Deflecting’ from Real Culprit — Insufficient Gun Control

  1. Ms. Mark-Viverito; if your conversation is about immigration, stay on that topic. If your subject is Gun Control, stay on point concerning gun control. Mixing the two together without any relatable bridging context to join them together makes you appear the fool.
Ma’am, if you don’t know how to stay on topic, then don’t speak at all. For someone that has a B.A. from Columbia University you apparently can’t stay on message.
The rules of Persuasive Speaking are thus:
    1) Know your audience – If your audience can’t grasp nuance and context then you hit the nail on the head. The rest of the human race can see you failed epically in bringing immigration and gun control into the same conversation.
    2) Keep your audience engaged and focused – Droning on in a monotone voice without placing any emphasis on the important parts of your speech will put people to sleep.
    3) Create a memorable Introduction and Conclusion – Your conclusion didn’t match your introduction which leaves others wondering what the heck you are talking about or do you even know what you are talking about?
    4) Use verbal and non-verbal communication skills – Standing ridged at the podium makes you look like an automaton, dancing and weaving make you look like you need to pee. No smiles, no expression, doesn’t engage or persuade listeners in any form.
    5) Maintain eye contact with your audience – Each time you look down instead of into the crowd you are stating, “I don’t care what you think, I am here to listen to myself talk.”
Frankly, Ms. Mark-Viverito most will walk away from your speech and dismiss it out of hand. For a 47 year old woman from New York whom is Speaker for the New York City Council your oratory skills have a lot to be desired.
