Hillary Clinton's choice of former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine to join her on the Democratic presidential ticket was largely seen as a safe choice. However, recently unearthed quotes from Kaine might change that perception.
The Daily Beast's Betsy Woodruff reports that earlier in his political career, Kaine told the press that he believed President Bill Clinton should have resigned for his "tawdry" behavior with women while in the White House. In particular, Kaine criticized Clinton for his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
Woodruff uncovered a number of reports detailing Kaine's criticism of the former president.
"Kaine’s remark—reported 14 years ago in the Richmond Times-Dispatch in the aftermath of a state-level sex scandal—hasn’t drawn any attention thus far in the 2016 presidential cycle," Woodruff reports. "But it suggests Hillary Clinton’s running mate at one point harbored reservations about the integrity of the man poised to become the country’s first first gentleman."
In June of 2002, The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported:
"If the allegations are true, he should definitely resign," Kaine said, adding he held the same view about President Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal.
