ABC 7: Blagojevich Awarded Retrial On 5 Counts

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A judge vacated five convictions against former Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich, which means he could seek a retrial on those counts and, ultimately, receive a shorter sentence.

The rest of the convictions were affirmed.

If the prosecutor elects to drop the vacated charges, the district court could proceed directly to resentencing, according to the court document USA v. Rod Blagojevich, which was released Tuesday afternoon.

Blagojevich is not eligible for release.
